The day started at 5.30am for the Hertfordshire manager Jean Roe and the staff of Hadley Wood Golf Club, an anticipation clung in the air, the question was everything ready for the Finals, and of course everything was.
My hostess had left a packet of Resolve on my breakfast plate, even though I had consumed
more Champagne the previous night that I ever had at the firms annual bun fight in town, surprisingly stomach and head were both in tact.
The Teams began arriving at the Club, a hugh buzz of fright and anticipation was all around us, we consumed our coffees and bacon butties and felt fit and ready for the rigours of the day.
Even the weather was not as bad as predicted by the met.
First on the tee were Surrey's Foxhills Golf Club, they were playing Kent's representative Nizels, Carolyn Charbine was playing Nizel's Denise Farr both players having handicaps of 15.
Carolyn took the win after a fine struggle between the two players.
They were followed by Lucy Wessely and Jenny Knight, with Lucy's handicap 15, Jenny felt lucky to have at least one shot in hand. Once again a Surrey girl just scraped the win. So 2/0 things were looking serious, Nizels needed to take a win as soon as they could to stop the rot.
Hilary Burdis of Nizels took the next match, things were beginning to look better. 1/2 down.
Next on the course was Bobbi Ramsammy of Nizels, she was opposing Trish Fleming, the handicap difference was 3, Bobbi lost the match, thus setting up a thrilling end to to the match.
Adele Young was next in, she had played Surrey girl Amy Ha, who had been left totally stunned by a superb shot to the green from Adele, whose ball finished two feet away from the pin, Amy had no chance. Adele had won on the 14th. 2/3
Ann Coyne of Surrey and Kate Chubb were next, Kate had played well, but lost on the 15th just seconds after Carol Turl had won her match on the 18th. Foxhills 4 Nizels 3.
The match had been suspended for 90 minutes, due the very heavy rain and thunders storms, Nizels coped with this eventually very well.
The course was in beautiful condition and drained very well.
The Girls from Nizels conducted themselves extremely well and were commended, by Pearson Trophy Chairman, Anne Cotton and all the officals and their fellow Golfers for their good sportsmanship and their willingness to support the finalists during the afternoons play.
Congratulations and very well done, Nizels.
