Four County Finals Report.

Play commenced at 8:30, on a sunny warm day, the course looked stunning, the Green staff should be congratulated on an excellent course, it's arguably one of the top ten courses in the country.
This year hosts Surrey saw their representatives Roehampton beaten by Hertfordshire's Mid-Herts in the first semi final, with Kent's Westerham cruising to a victory over Middlesex representatives Muswell Hill, with a good 5/2 win.
Clare Yonge, Elaine Lee, Frances Spargo, Carol Dent and bringing up the rear guard Val Campbell winning their games.

A lunch break was taken, before the Final started at 1:30. The weather was still good, even though the met had predicted thunderstorms.

Mary Hoare for Hertfordshire squared up against the reliable Clare Yonge, the match was a close fought affair, although Clare seemed to have the upper hand throughout the match, she manage to win on the 18th Hole.
Kent's Jenny Daily had an incredibly hard match against the rampant Lindsay Murray-Grey, who could not put a foot wrong. Lindsay won.
Elaine Lee was next to enter the battle, she played against Janet Biscoe, Elaine won her match in her own inimitable style, well done Elaine.

Linda Hyam squared up against Carol Newman; Linda was another Hertfordshire player on a roll. Carole fought valiantly, but was unable to gain a win for Kent.
Kent's Frances Spargo was next up, she played against Karen Bax, Frances won her match on the 16th to take the overall match score to 3/2 to Kent.

Rookie, Carol Dent came next, she had to play Maree Palmer, Carol played her heart out and had many up and down during her round of golf against her Hertfordshire opponent, but things were not to be for this courageous lass, she lost her match on the 17th, to bring the match to all square.
Carols result brought the spectators to their knees, who was going to win this spectacular match?
Kent's Val Campbell or Hertfordshire's, Deborah Connor?
The match progressed, it reached the 18th, all-square, everyone walked down the 19th fairway, the players matched each other shot for shot, they are on the green,
Deborah putted first, the went in the hole, Val had to putt the ball in the hole, she lined the ball up, putted and  missed by the turn of a ball.
Hertfordshire had won The Pearson Trophy for the second year in a row.

Kent were devastated, but they had played well and in a friendly, sporting way and are to be congratulated for that. The Salvers were presented, speeches made,
photos were taken, Champaign corks were popped and the day's golf was celebrated into the dying embers of the evening.
